Each year, the Families Learning Conference planning team sets out to enhance the Conference experience by utilizing attendee feedback from the previous year. You asked for resources in funding and sustainability, educational content for working with parent leaders and K-12 students, plus more networking opportunities—and you got it! From a film screening and “non-sessions”, to new content strands, this year’s Conference is a conference YOU helped shape!

MORE CONTENT

Make the most of your trip by arriving early and staying late.

We’re offering a pre-conference session on Sunday, Nov. 3 presented by Tim Shanahan, as well as a post-conference workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 6 presented by the National Association for Family, School, and Community Engagement (NAFSCE). Both are included in 3-day registrations, but the pre-con is limited to the first 200 registrants to sign up.

Several new strands of content are offered this year, including Parent Leadership, K-12 Education, Library, and Funding and Sustainability. Want to target your learning to one strand? Use the filter icon on the website schedule and select “Filter by Track” to view sessions in only one strand.

SMART NETWORKING…

We’re offering up several opportunities to not only network with your peers but to learn in the process!

On Sunday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m., we invite our early arrivals to participate in Clips and Conversations, which features snippets from the No Small Matter documentary followed by facilitated discussion. How can we utilize and expand our knowledge of children’s brain development to better support families in our communities? Facilitated by NCFL early childhood specialists, attendees will view and discuss three clips related to brain development, the opportunity gap, and children’s executive function.

Our “non-sessions” offer a way to go from attendee to active participant. Catch the Idea Exchange on Monday, Nov. 4 at 11:15 a.m. to share what works with your students and families, and hear what others are doing around the country. Or attend Bringing PhOLKS Together for Community Building on Monday, Nov. 4 at 1:45 p.m. to learn about a tool to build community among your students and families and to try out the tool firsthand with fellow participants.

…AND A LITTLE FUN

What’s a trip to Kentucky without bluegrass music and bourbon?! In celebration of PNC’s and NCFL’s 25-year partnership, please join us on Monday, Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m. for a Kentucky-themed Welcome Reception, sponsored by PNC! Enjoy a complimentary Derby beverage, delicious regional appetizers, and a cash bar as you listen to bluegrass music and partake in themed festive activities, including a fascinator-making station (complete with photobooth!). PNC Grow Up Great® will also bring its interactive traveling exhibit, the Mobile Learning Adventure, for attendees to visit during Conference—back by popular demand!

After several days of information gathering, what better way to unwind than with live music entertainment at the Hometown Throwdown? This banquet afterparty on Tuesday, Nov. 5 will offer attendees an opportunity to network, socialize, and groove to live music provided by NCFL partner, Academy of Music Production Education and Development (AMPED), a youth program by Level Seven Recording Studios that aims to provide a safe environment for youth to explore their creativity through music. Enjoy desserts, a cash bar, live music, and a special ‘elevated’ performance to celebrate NCFL’s 30th anniversary.
