Family Social Identity and Advocacy: Who Is Heard?

Family advocacy is a common type of engagement. In some ways, advocacy has become louder and more contentious. Educators want the best for their students, and a student’s family wants the best for them too. But “best” is different for everyone. Engagement can be uneven. Some families are heard frequently and clearly, while others are not heard at all. However, educators can walk into the family-school relationship with tools and strategies to pull forward the voices of families less heard.
