Thinking Outside the Box: Enhancing Parent Engagement in Programming
The FACE (Family and Child Education) program is designed as a family literacy program for American Indian families. This program promotes native language and culture. This program also uses a family literacy model and home visiting model. The FACE emphasizes kindergarten readiness through the collaboration amongst families, local resources and schools. FACE also provides home visiting and adult education to support child development from the earliest years by providing developmentally appropriate resources guiding daily family involvement. We are going to discuss the challenges, barriers and hurdles that the Haaku FACE program has had in parent participation. In addition, how Parent and Child Together (PACT) Time® has impacted the three components (family enrichment, adult education and preschool-3rd grade) in FACE. Finally, we will discuss how adult education and home visiting service can work together to support families to achieve their life and/or learning goals.
