Zeljana Javorek

Zeljana Javorek joins NCFL with 25 years of experience in Family literacy. Her work involved working with English Language Learners, individuals, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. As an Associate Director of Family Literacy, Zeljana supports NCFL’s family literacy programs. Her focus is on understanding and addressing the unique needs of families and their communities. By collaborating closely with the NCFL team and community partners, she helps ensure that our educational services effectively empower parents and children to make sustainable changes in their families.

Zeljana’s academic journey began in her home country, Bosnia, and Herzegovina (formerly Yugoslavia), where she earned a Bachelor of Science. Her career in education started as a high school math teacher before she moved to the United States. She furthered her qualifications for teaching English as a second language by obtaining a TESOL certification. Over the years, through trainings and collaborations with parents and institutions, she developed a deeper understanding of the importance of community engagement in providing effective services to support the needs of families in our communities.
