Lynn Hernandez, Adult Education Teacher and Program Coordinator for the Family and Child Education (FACE) program at Little Wound School on the Pine Ridge Reservation, will share how Lakota values, relationships, and community partnerships are transforming outcomes for families with the next seven generations in mind. Guided by the Lakota teaching, “Not one without the other,” Lynn believes that children, parents, educators, and communities thrive together. Through partnerships with the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL), Parents as Teachers (PAT), and local organizations, the Little Wound FACE Program has supported families from prenatal through adulthood, helping children reach developmental milestones, and parents earn diplomas and college degrees, secure meaningful employment, and strengthen their communities. Participants will leave with practical strategies for building authentic partnerships, creating a shared vision, and fostering family literacy through relationships, culture, and community engagement.
