What Comes Next? Moving Family Literacy Learners into Education and Career Pathways
Family literacy programs are often the front door through which adults reengage with education—but what comes next? This session will explore how family literacy providers can connect parents and caregivers to the broader adult education ecosystem, including high school equivalency preparation, integrated education and training, digital skills, industry-recognized credentials, postsecondary education, apprenticeships, and employment.
Participants will learn how adult education programs help learners move from foundational skills to COABE’s “A, B, Cs”—a job, a better job, and a career—while continuing to support their roles as parents and caregivers. COABE will share practical examples of workforce partnerships, no-cost training and credential opportunities, national professional development resources, and strategies for building stronger connections among family literacy programs, adult education providers, employers, and workforce systems. Attendees will leave with actionable ideas for expanding the pathways available to the families they serve.
