It’s day two of the 2023 Families Learning Conference! We hope you’re ready for another full day of learning and connecting. Tuesday kicks off with NCFL’s President & CEO, Dr. Felicia C. Smith, followed by a welcome from Spike Bighorn, Program Manager of Sovereignty in Indian Education with the Bureau of Indian Education. We’ll learn the story of Kayleen Pino, participant in the Ramah Navajo Family and Child Education (FACE) program. Our keynote will be delivered by Col. Nicole Mann, the first indigenous woman from NASA to go to space. As a NASA astronaut, Col. Mann spent 157 days in orbit on the International Space Station as commander of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-5 mission. As a pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps, she deployed twice in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. We’re excited to hear Col. Mann’s story and the lessons she’s learned here on Earth and beyond.
