Onia Mayberry, a teen mother at nine, began her journey as an education advocate from a deeply personal place. Facing the challenges of motherhood and special needs education, Onia’s persistence led her to become a leading voice for early childhood education, special education, and supportive education for teen parents. As a mother of nine, including her adopted siblings, Onia’s commitment to family and advocacy is evident in her work with various leadership teams in Independent School Districts, resulting in successful program integrations and improved graduation rates. Beyond education, Onia is a powerful advocate for reproductive health and educational rights, having spoken at the Texas Capitol and on the Senate floor. She also works as a therapist specializing in sex crimes and child trafficking and runs a nonprofit dedicated to helping teen parents. Her extensive background, including her service as a U.S. Air Force veteran and academic achievements, has equipped her with the knowledge and skills to empower teens through consent education and advocate for safer, more equitable school practices. Onia’s story of resilience and dedication is creating lasting change for families and children across Texas.
