Home Literacy Visits: Diving Into the Community
November 18, 2024
1:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Enlace Academy is a K-8 charter school in Indianapolis with more than 80% of its 700 students identified as multilingual learners. The families Enlace serves and the community in which it is embedded shape the programs that are offered. One such program is Home Literacy Visits. Staff members sign up to take a meal, a bag of new books, and additional instructional materials to students’ homes. They spend an hour learning with the families and providing individualized support. After learning about the program design, attendees will workshop a home visit program that fits their family learning context. Attendees can expect to walk away with resources for purchasing discounted books and scheduling and communicating with families.
