Parent Leader, Arizona SFEC Parent Leadership Council
Lorena Torres began her Family Literacy journey in 2011 at Longfellow Elementary School in Mesa, Arizona. However, she had to take a break in 2014 as she gave birth to her daughter, Melanie. After her daughter started Kindergarten, she returned to the Family Literacy program at Jefferson Elementary School in 2018, where teacher Ivonne Ortiz welcomed her warmly.
Lorena has been delighted with the support she has received from both her teachers and classmates, who have been eager to assist her in any way possible. She is also a proud member of the Arizona Parent Leadership Council, which has greatly helped her develop her leadership skills and enabled her to share her ideas and concerns with other parents. Through this council, Lorena has participated in Parent Nation Village training and has had the opportunity to showcase her training by leading parents through this learning opportunity at various elementary schools. Lorena is proud of her accomplishments and those of her children. Her older son is now in college, and her two younger children continue to attend Jefferson Elementary, where Lorena is still pursuing her Family Literacy education.
