Candy Magaña, MPA

Candy Magaña, MPA, is a nationally respected practice facilitator, master trainer and public health professional specializing in capacity building through innovation adoption with a focus on health equity. Candy is the Director of Health Equity Advancement, Innovation and Training at Humana and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at The Ohio State University (OSU) Wexner Medical Center. In her role, she leads health equity innovation pilots, training initiatives and resource development.

Prior to her time at Humana, Candy served as the Director of the Center for Primary Care Innovation and Transformation (PCIT) at OSU Wexner Medical Center. Highlights of Candy’s time at OSU include co-leading a telehealth workgroup that scaled telehealth adoption and expansion for primary care clinicians, staff and leadership at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, for which she was named a COVID Women Faculty Warrior. She served as lead for OSU’s Anti-Racism Action Plan’s Faculty and Staff Training and Development Action Group, where she managed nine subcommittees to develop key programming. Candy also facilitated a physician recruitment process redesign, resulting in the implementation of a physician orientation program, which has been identified as a model program for other Departments to replicate at OSU. She also served as the Membership Management Chair for the Ohio State University’s Women of Color Employee Resource Group.

Candy has also served as the Manager of Clinical Transformation at RubiconMD, a health technology start-up focused on connecting primary care clinicians to specialty care expertise through a multimodal eConsult platform. Candy directly collaborated with primary care systems across the country and their cross-functional leaders to successfully implement and adopt eConsults. She launched and developed curricula for the nation’s first Clinical Transformation University (CTU) and Clinical Transformation in Technology (CTT) Certification Program to train a cadre of cross-functional leaders in effective technology adoption, implementation and expansion.
