Program Manager, Office of Sovereignty in Indian Education (SIE), Bureau of Indian Education
Spike Bighorn was born and raised in Brockton, Montana, located on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in northeastern Montana. He is an enrolled member of the Assiniboine & Sioux Tribes and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications Education from Dickinson State University in Dickinson, ND, as well as a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA.
Spike Bighorn currently resides in Oklahoma City, OK, where he serves as the Program Manager for the Office of Sovereignty in Indian Education (SIE) at the Bureau of Indian Education, a position he has held since March of 2020. The work of SIE involves providing funding and support for the Johnson-O’Malley Program, tribal colleges and universities, early childhood programs, Tribal Education Department (TED) grants and BIE’s Native Language Immersion grants. Mr. Bighorn has 38 years of management and leadership experience with tribal, federal, and private sector entities.
